Movie Monday

tuskegee-airmenMovie Club tonight starts at 5:30 pm in the conference room.  We’re watching Tuskegee Airmen – the story of the 332nd Fighter Squadron during World War II.  This movie starring Laurence Fishburne and Cuba Gooding Jr. demonstrates the unexpected success of the first all-black squadron that flew over 100 successful missions.  Action-packed – you won’t want to miss it!

falAs an added bonus for Black History Month, we’ll also be screening an insightful documentary right here in the reading room!  This documentary (beginning at 4pm) tells the story of ordinary citizens who made a huge impact on American history during the Civil Rights Movement.

Treasure Ahoy!

treasure20chest_You may or may not have noticed an addition to the teen center – Miss Catherine’s Treasure Box!

And what’s inside?  You’ll never know unless you earn the privilege of choosing a treasure yourself.  And I must warn you, it’s not easy – to earn a prize from the treasure chest takes something exceptional, an act above and beyond expected library behavior.

Some examples of treasure-worthy behavior are:

  • Helping with a library program
  • Cleaning up a mess in the teen center that you didn’t make
  • Completing a task (well) as assigned by Miss Catherine
  • Going out of your way to help a fellow library patron
  • Submitting a book review

Remember, Miss Catherine holds the key to the treasure chest, and she is the judge of who has earned the privilege of foraging among the treasures inside, so be sure to ask her how you can earn that privilege; or if you’ve seen exceptional behavior from someone else, and would like to nominate them for a prize!
